The Controller:

Controller will be used to stretch (horizontally and vertically ) the shadow.

It puts out values (dynamic) that alters every subsequent frame leaving the past frames untouched.

The Controller:

Stretch (vertical)

Stretch (horizontal)

Translating the intuitive action/interaction of pulling into stretch for the shadow.

The project had embodiment and artistic expression, but the tangible aspect and direct manipulation was still lacking.

We added an object to further explore direct manipulation.

Finalizing tangible Interactions

Object rough sketch and interaction planning.

The object can be used to manipulate the following shadow properties:

Explorations:

Message....

Much like how

shadows vary in size and

clarity but are always present,

our actions, whether significant or minor,

shape us and remain embedded in our unconscious, directing our future actions.

Installation allows participants to embody the interaction using their shadows, painting a picture with it, using both their bodies and their shadows as a paintbrush.

Where the surface is the manifestation of their being (ego + shadow).

Canvas painted during prototype.

The installation includes 3D object to enrich the shadow play, allowing for a more dynamic and tangible engagement.

interaction....

The project draws upon the concept of “unconscious” and intends to make participants aware of their “shadow self” .

(a concept by Swiss analytical psychologist Carl Jung),

Carl Jung, Analytical Psychologist

which encompasses the hidden parts of our identity.....

Inspiration

Intent....

The installation aims to materialize the concept that past actions influence future behaviors,

using shadows as a metaphor for actions and their psychological imprints.

Concept

Shadow as a medium

Shadows are omnipresent.
They are weaved into our cultures.

Although we cannot articulate it, but we can intuitively figure out how to manipulate them.

The metaphor has also been used to represent the repressed self in analytical psychology.

Explorations:

Much like how shadows vary in size and clarity yet persistently exist, our

actions, whether significant or minor, shape us an remain embedded in our

unconscious, influencing our future endeavors. The installation aims to

materialize the concept of our "shadow self".􀀀Participants are encouraged to

physically engage, utilizing their bodies and shadows as paintbrushes to craft

compositions on a screen. Akin to life where past actions influence future ones,

the decisions made at the outset dictate subsequent actions within the composition.

Shadow

The installation creates an interactive experience where participants use their shadows to paint on a surface, with the opacity varying based on their proximity to the light source and number of overlaps.
